Thank you for visiting my site! Before you read more about my practice and myself, I understand many different emotions come with scheduling a therapy appointment for the first time or looking for a therapist that is a good fit. Opening up to and being vulnerable with a stranger can feel uncomfortable! Resistance, hesitation, worry - even excitement and hope are all normal feelings!
I welcome any emotions you may experience during this process and hope to offer a nonjudgmental space that allows you to feel supported and heard so we can begin to explore your thoughts and feelings to make positive, meaningful changes in your life.
I believe each person that comes into therapy is unique with their own set of goals to accomplish by the end; therefore, techniques used in my sessions vary for each client. While some therapists take very specific approaches to therapy, I find my role is to support, listen, and build a relationship of trust. I offer a space where you feel safe, heard, and are able to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. I would describe my personality as warm and gentle, but I also challenge clients when they feel stuck with negative thinking patterns.
I enjoy working with a range of clients including: adults, teens, and families who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationships/friendships, family concerns (divorce, health issues), social skills, self-esteem, grief/trauma, identity exploration, and non-suicidal self-harm/suicidal ideation.
As you become more comfortable discussing your thoughts, feelings, wants, and needs, you can begin to develop skills that will enable you to grow, heal, and move forward. It is never too late...
Meaghan graduated college with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling here in Los Angeles, at Loyola Marymount University.
After graduating college, Meaghan accepted a position in Connecticut at Cooperative Educational Services, a special education school placement, working with middle and high school students who presented a variety of significant behavioral and emotional disabilities. Her immediate connection with adolescents and teens inspired her to continue working in the school setting in California at The Help Group, a multidisciplinary day school for students with Asperger's Disorder, high functioning autism, anxiety-related disorders, and non-verbal learning disabilities.
During the 2016-2017 school year, Meaghan interned as a School Counselor with the Redondo Beach Unified School District where she provided individual and group support to address social-emotional, academic, and college and career concerns. She accepted a permanent position working in the district as a School Counselor for 5 years addressing a variety of challenges including: anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, social skills, friendship/relationships, divorce, self-esteem, grief/loss, trauma from the COVID-19 pandemic, and suicidality. She also provided support to parents and families.
With over a decade of experience working with people who have presented a wide-range of challenges, Meaghan's career opportunities have allowed her to effectively build trust, establish rapport, and create a genuine positive relationship with others.
Currently, Meaghan works as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC, #14508) in private practice at Leah M. Niehaus & Associates in Hermosa Beach. She works with adolescents, teens, and adults and has been running an open-ended process group for middle school girls for over 5 years. Meaghan holds a Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) and is a member of the California Association for Licensed Professional Counselors.
I am not on any Insurance panels but can provide you with a "Superbill" that can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement. Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
While it is not possible for a psychotherapist to know, in advance, how many psychotherapy sessions may be necessary or appropriate for a given person, your total cost of services will depend upon the number of psychotherapy sessions you attend, your individual circumstances, and the type and amount of services that are provided to you. The number of visits that are appropriate in your case, and the estimated cost for those services, depends on your needs and what you agree to in consultation with your therapist. You are entitled to disagree with any recommendations made to you concerning your treatment and you may discontinue treatment at any time.
Individual/Family Therapy: $210 (50 minutes)
Group Therapy: $75 (90 minutes)
If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, and you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the treatment as booked.
Most clients will attend one therapy session per week, but the frequency of sessions that are appropriate in your case may be more or less than once per week, depending upon your needs.
Group counseling can be a powerful, healing experience and a great way to connect with your peers! Please take a look at the attached flyer to learn more about my middle school groups. Feel free to email or call me for availability and/or further information regarding the group intake process.
